Cold Weather Payments Triggered by Met Office

April 3, 2013

A Department of Work and Pensions Cold Weather Payment was triggered yesterday (02/4/2013) by the following Met Office weather station(s) for eligible residents in the listed Postcode districts that are part of the Oldham East and Saddleworth Constituency.

Bingley  – OL1, OL16, OL2, OL3, OL4, OL5

The trigger is for the period period 25/3/2013 to 31/3/2013.

To help show the extent and location of these Cold Weather Payment areas aninteractive map has been produced see here. The map will show Met Stations that are triggered in blue. People are eligible for a Cold Weather Payment if they get one of the following benefits:

 • Income Support

• Employment and Support Allowance (income-related)

• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

• Pension Credit

If they get Income Support, Employment and Support Allowance (income-related) during the assessment phase or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, they must also receive a pensioner or disability premium or have a child who is disabled or under the age of 5.

A Cold Weather Payment is intended to help towards extra heating costs during very cold weather. A payment of £25.00 is paid automatically for each seven day period of very cold weather between 1 November to 31 March. You do not have to pay it back. It is a regulated payment and not subject to a budget. As long as you fulfil the conditions, you will be paid.

Payments are made automatically to those entitled to them. There should be no need to make a claim, but people who think they may be entitled but do not receive a payment should contact the Department for Work and Pensions.
