I am backing Hear my voice a campaign run by Mencap designed to provide a platform for people with a learning disability, and their families, to make their voices heard and attended the launch of the campaign in the House of Commons on 10 September.
It’s so important that we do everything we can to support people with learning disabilities.
Mencap’s research shows that the British public believe people with a learning disability should have the same chances in life as anybody else and that’s no surprise when you consider that 40% of us are in contact with someone with a learning disability on a regular basis. We should all be ashamed that some of the most vulnerable children and adults in our society get poor healthcare, are victims of horrendous hate crimes, and don’t get access to good state education.
It’s time that changed.
