Take part in building a Fairer Oldham

I am delighted the Oldham Fairness Commission (OFC) will host its conference at Mahdlo at 10am on 29th January, which will be open to the public.

At the conference, local Commissioners will commit to the OFC recommendations and discuss their draft actions plans to tackle inequalities and build a fairer Oldham.

As everyone is welcome, you too can get involved and join in the discussions to build a fairer Oldham. See why Oldhamer and Rugby League legend, Kevin Sinfield is backing the OFC in the video below.

I established the OFC in 2013 in response to the persistent inequalities that exist across Oldham borough. The Commission is composed of local individuals with proven knowledge and expertise from the public, private and voluntary sectors across the Borough.

One outcome of the inequalities is that there is more than an 11 year life expectancy ‘gap’ between men who live in the most and least deprived parts of the borough. But many of these inequalities are not fixed or inevitable.

The OFC has gathered evidence though oral hearings and written submissions and a full report was produced in March 2015 with recommendations to take forward. The report and further details on the OFC process can be found here.

I do hope you will be able to join us and take part in building a fairer Oldham. To RSVP please email, Harpreet Uppal on by Monday 25 January.

I look forward to seeing you there!
